Capcom is enhancing Monster Hunter Wilds' performance before its release, aiming to reduce PC GPU requirements. This follows feedback from the initial open beta, which revealed performance issues.
Lowering the GPU Bar
A recent announcement on Monster Hunter Germany's Twitter (X) account (January 19, 2025) highlighted performance improvements. A video showcased smoother gameplay on PS5, utilizing an updated Prioritize Framerate mode. Similar optimizations are underway for the PC version, focusing on decreasing the necessary GPU power. The goal is to lower the recommended GPU specifications, making the game accessible to a broader range of players.
Currently, the minimum GPU requirements are an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super or AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT. Success in lowering these requirements would significantly expand the game's potential player base. A free benchmarking tool is also planned to help players assess their system's compatibility.
Addressing Beta Concerns
The October/November 2024 beta test revealed several performance problems, including low-poly models and frame rate drops, even on high-end PCs. Capcom acknowledged these issues on November 1, 2024, stating that improvements were made and that an afterimage noise issue would be resolved.
A second open beta test (February 7-10 and 14-17, 2025) for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam is scheduled, featuring Gypceros and a new monster. Whether the performance improvements will be fully implemented in this beta remains to be seen.
The upcoming beta and the planned benchmarking tool should provide further clarity on the final game's performance and accessibility.
