Krafton's new life simulation game, inZOI, has achieved a remarkable milestone by selling 1 million copies within just one week of its Early Access launch on Steam. This impressive feat marks the fastest sales record for any game published by the South Korean giant, showcasing the immense popularity and demand for this title.
Launched on March 28, inZOI quickly captured the gaming community's attention, not least because of a controversial feature that allowed players to run over and kill children. Krafton promptly addressed this issue, labeling it as an "unintended bug" and deploying a patch to rectify the situation. Despite this early hiccup, the game has maintained a 'very positive' user review rating on Steam.
The game's popularity soared further, reaching a peak of 175,000 concurrent viewers on Twitch and securing the third spot in the Games category. Just 40 minutes after its release, inZOI ascended to the top of Steam’s Global Top Sellers List based on sales revenue, demonstrating its instant appeal to gamers worldwide.
In addition to its sales success, inZOI's in-game user-generated content (UGC) platform, Canvas, has seen tremendous engagement. On launch day alone, it attracted over 1.2 million participants and witnessed the upload of more than 470,000 pieces of content, highlighting the vibrant and creative community surrounding the game.
IGN's Early Access review of inZOI awarded it a 6/10, commending its visual appeal and ambition but noting a lack of depth at the time of its Early Access launch. Krafton attributes the game's successful launch to its proactive promotional efforts and continuous engagement with the gaming community, which have helped build trust and momentum leading up to the release. The company's global showcase and demo build were particularly effective in generating high interest.
CEO CH Kim expressed gratitude for the global reception of inZOI and emphasized the company's commitment to ongoing communication with players. Krafton aims to nurture inZOI into a long-term franchise IP, promising regular updates with new content, including mod support and new cities. All updates and DLC will be provided free of charge until the game's full release.
Looking ahead, Krafton plans to address reported issues swiftly through hotfixes throughout April. The company acknowledges the challenges of managing a global community of this scale, describing it as a "next-level experience" and admitting to some "trial and error" in optimizing communication methods.
