It's worth recalling that Helldivers 2 became the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game ever, achieving a staggering 12 million copies sold within just 12 weeks. This unprecedented success set a record unlikely to be surpassed by any other first-party Sony-developed game. However, the journey since its explosive launch has been anything but smooth, with significant events such as the reversal of PSN account requirements on Steam, review-bomb campaigns, and a community often at odds with the game itself due to contentious nerfs and buffs.
Throughout these challenges, Arrowhead has had to navigate the complexities of managing a much larger and more mainstream playerbase than ever before. Now, 14 months after Helldivers 2's release on PC and PlayStation 5, Arrowhead is reflecting on the past and assessing its progress in the demanding world of live-service gaming. Following the successful Killzone collaboration, speculation is rife about potential future partnerships, with Warhammer 40,000 being a notable possibility.
To delve deeper into these topics, IGN had the opportunity to sit down with Alex Bolle, the production director of Helldivers 2, to gain further insights into Arrowhead's journey and future plans.
