GSC Game World unleashes a massive patch for STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl, addressing over 1700 bugs and enhancements. Patch 1.2, as detailed on Steam, significantly improves various aspects, including game balance, locations, quests, performance, and the much-anticipated A-Life 2.0 system.
Following a successful November launch boasting positive Steam reviews and 1 million sales, STALKER 2, despite its achievements, faced well-documented issues, primarily concerning A-Life 2.0. This system, a core element of the original STALKER, dynamically simulates life within the game world, impacting AI behavior and emergent gameplay. While initially touted as a revolutionary improvement, A-Life 2.0's launch performance fell short of expectations. GSC Game World previously addressed the issues in an interview with IGN, outlining the problems and promising fixes. Patch 1.1 was the first step; Patch 1.2 represents a substantial advancement.
Below are the key improvements included in Patch 1.2:
AI Enhancements: Numerous fixes target NPC behavior, including corpse looting, weapon selection, shooting accuracy, stealth mechanics, and mutant AI. Specific improvements address issues with pathfinding, attack animations, ability usage (e.g., Controller's roar), and interactions between factions. Over 70 individual AI-related issues were resolved.
Balance Adjustments: Patch 1.2 rebalances various elements, including artifact effects, NPC weaponry and armor spawn rates, pistol damage, and the economy of certain repeatable missions. Radiation damage has also been adjusted based on accumulated radiation points.

Memory leaks and over 100 EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION crashes have been addressed, alongside other stability enhancements. A framerate lock has been added for menus and loading screens.
