Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Boasts Impressive Performance on Consoles

Dive into the world of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) and discover how it delivers stellar performance across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms. This article explores KCD2's performance capabilities and the customizable settings available to players.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Performance Tested Across All Platforms

Photo-Realistic Look With CryEngine

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 showcases impressive performance across different platforms, as evidenced by various tests and reports. On PlayStation and Xbox consoles, the game runs smoothly with options for both 30fps and 60fps, while the PS5 Pro enhances the visual experience with advanced rendering capabilities. KCD2's use of CryTek’s CryEngine contributes to its photo-realistic visuals, a feature not commonly seen in many other games.

KCD2 continues to leverage CryEngine, the same engine used in the original Kingdom Come: Deliverance (KCD1). Warhorse Studios, the developer, has chosen to stick with CryEngine due to their familiarity with it, enabling them to further refine and enhance features for the sequel.

According to PC Gamer, CryEngine stands out from other engines like Unreal Engine due to its use of old-school rendering techniques. While this means fewer shaders and simpler lighting, the focus remains firmly on performance. Despite these traditional methods, KCD2 achieves photo-realistic visuals thanks to its use of physically based materials. Eurogamer highlights that CryEngine's sparse voxel octree global illumination (SVOGI) provides realistic indirect light bounces, enhancing the visual authenticity of lighting from torches and reflections on metallic surfaces.

PlayStation And Xbox Consoles Have 30 FPS and 60 FPS Options

For PS5 and Xbox Series X players, KCD2 offers two distinct modes: a fidelity mode running at 30fps with a resolution of 1440p, and a performance mode at 60fps with 1080p resolution. Xbox Series S users, however, will only have access to the fidelity mode. On the other hand, the PS5 Pro will run the game at a default 60fps with 1296p resolution, utilizing PSSR upscaling to achieve a 4K output.

The fidelity mode enhances visual elements on PS5 and Xbox Series X by adding more foliage and improving shadow rendering across terrains, significantly boosting the visual appeal of outdoor scenes and the quality of ambient occlusion. The PS5 Pro takes this a step further, enhancing all aspects of the fidelity mode with sharper imagery, better ambient occlusion, improved object quality, and overall superior image quality.

Upscaling Is Completely Optional For PC

For PC gamers, KCD2 offers optional upscaling, allowing players to tailor their gaming experience to their hardware. PC Gamer notes that the game supports FSR and DLSS for rendering at lower resolutions, but lacks options like XeSS for Intel cards, sharpening, and frame generation for additional graphical enhancements.

Despite CryEngine's focus on performance, running KCD2 at 4K with maximum settings will still demand a lot from GPUs. However, the game is designed with high scalability in mind, offering five quality presets—low, medium, high, ultra, and experimental—to help players find the perfect balance for their systems.

KCD2 has released a comprehensive guide to help players prepare their systems for the game. This guide covers how to check system specifications, detailed requirements for CPU, RAM, GPU, and storage, and other crucial pre-play considerations.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is slated for release on February 4, 2025, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. For more detailed information about the game, visit our Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 page.
