EA Unveils Battlefield Labs and Battlefield Studios for the Next Battlefield Game

EA has offered a first look at its upcoming Battlefield game, coinciding with the announcement of "Battlefield Labs," a player testing initiative, and "Battlefield Studios," a collaborative effort uniting four studios to develop the title.

A short pre-alpha gameplay video accompanies the announcement, showcasing the game's progress. This initiative seeks player feedback to refine core gameplay elements before release.

PlayBattlefield Studios comprises DICE (Stockholm, focusing on multiplayer), Motive (single-player and multiplayer maps), Ripple Effect (new player acquisition), and Criterion (single-player campaign). This marks a return to a traditional single-player campaign after Battlefield 2042's multiplayer-only approach.

EA emphasizes the critical development phase and the importance of player feedback via Battlefield Labs. Testing will encompass core combat, destruction, weapons, vehicles, gadgets, maps, modes, and squad play, including Conquest and Breakthrough. The class system (Assault, Engineer, Support, and Recon) will also undergo refinement for enhanced strategic depth. Participation requires a non-disclosure agreement (NDA).

Initial testing will involve a few thousand players in Europe and North America, expanding to tens of thousands across more regions later. This ambitious project follows the closure of Ridgeline Games, a studio previously working on a standalone single-player Battlefield title.

The new Battlefield returns to a modern setting, incorporating ship-to-ship and helicopter combat, and natural disasters like wildfires, as previously revealed concept art suggests. This marks a return to the style of Battlefield 3 and 4, aiming to recapture the series' core strengths while expanding its appeal to a wider audience. The game will feature 64 players per map and abandon the Specialist system of Battlefield 2042.

EA acknowledges the high stakes following Battlefield 2042's reception and describes this project as one of its most ambitious undertakings. The goal is to regain the trust of core Battlefield players while attracting new ones, offering a diverse range of experiences within the Battlefield universe.

EA has not yet revealed a release date, platforms, or the official title for the new Battlefield game.
