Deadlock's Major Update: From Four Lanes to Three

Deadlock has unveiled its most significant update in months, a complete overhaul transforming its four-lane map into a three-lane configuration. This substantial change aims to streamline gameplay and enhance various aspects of the game.

A Three-Lane Redesign

Deadlock's Map Overhaul The core alteration involves reducing the lanes from four to three. This simplification is accompanied by extensive map-wide adjustments, impacting visuals, building layouts, pathways, neutral camps, air vents, destructible objects, power-up buffs, strategic maneuvering points, the mid-boss encounter, and more. While Deadlock's unique third-person perspective in the MOBA genre sets it apart, the previous four-lane design presented certain complexities.

The update also introduces changes to minion farming. Players no longer need to execute precise last hits on enemies to gain Soul Orbs, facilitating easier early-game resource acquisition. Furthermore, the patch notes highlight improvements to the game's netcode and client performance.

A Vital Boost for Deadlock?

Deadlock's New GameplayThis update is a potential game-changer for Deadlock, aiming to revitalize player engagement. The game experienced a peak of 171,490 concurrent players in September 2024, but has since seen a dramatic 90% decline in player numbers.

Valve developer Yoshi explained the shift in update strategy on Deadlock's Discord server in January 2025. The previous bi-weekly update cycle proved too restrictive for implementing desired changes. The new approach prioritizes larger, less frequent major patches, supplemented by ongoing hotfixes as needed.

Deadlock is currently in active development and undergoing friend-invite-only playtesting. A public release date remains unannounced. For further details, visit our Deadlock game page.
