As the Bloodborne PSX Demake Becomes the Latest Fan-Project to Suffer a Copyright Claim, the Creator of Bloodborne's 60fps Mod Has Offered His ‘Copium’ Official Remake Theory

Bloodborne fan projects continue to face copyright takedowns. Following last week's takedown of the Bloodborne 60fps mod, the Bloodborne PSX demake is now the target.

Lance McDonald, creator of the Bloodborne 60fps mod, confirmed Sony Interactive Entertainment issued a DMCA takedown notice four years after the mod's release, demanding the removal of online links.

Lilith Walther, creator of the Bloodborne PSX demake and Nightmare Kart, reported a YouTube video showcasing the demake received a copyright claim from MarkScan Enforcement, a company McDonald identified as Sony's agent for DMCA takedowns. He expressed bewilderment at Sony's actions, stating they also targeted his Bloodborne 60fps patch information.

The situation highlights the ongoing frustration surrounding Bloodborne's lack of official support. Despite critical acclaim and commercial success, Sony hasn't released a next-gen patch, remaster, or sequel. Recent advancements in PS4 emulation, enabling 60fps gameplay on PC via ShadPS4, have fueled speculation about Sony's aggressive response. While Sony hasn't commented, McDonald theorizes the takedowns are a preemptive measure to clear the way for a potential official 60fps remake, suggesting trademark concerns.

Former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida offered a personal theory: Hidetaka Miyazaki's deep affection for Bloodborne prevents him from allowing others to work on it, and Sony respects his wishes.

Despite Miyazaki's past comments acknowledging the game's suitability for modern hardware and FromSoftware's lack of IP ownership, Bloodborne remains largely untouched nearly a decade after its release. The future of the beloved title remains uncertain.
