Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's Diversity Stems From "Maximum Historical Accuracy"
Warhorse Studios Developers Simply Want to Create an Engaging Game

Warhorse Studios developers have expressed frustration over the ongoing online criticism directed at Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2), emphasizing their primary goal is to create an exceptional gaming experience. In a February 3, 2025 interview with PC Gamer, KCD2 PR Manager Tobias Stolz-Zwilling addressed the controversy surrounding the game's increased diversity.
Stolz-Zwilling stated, "We were labeled differently several years ago. Now we're being labeled in another way. It appears certain groups always attempt to categorize us, when we're simply focused on developing a compelling video game." This response came after fans and critics challenged the game's inclusion of LGBTQ+ content and other elements they consider "woke."
Senior Game Designer Ondřej Bittner echoed this sentiment, asserting the development team isn't responsible for the current controversy. "We believe extreme viewpoints will never find satisfaction," he commented.
Diversity in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

KCD2's setting in Kuttenberg naturally creates a more diverse environment compared to the previous installment. Bittner elaborated, "Kuttenberg features more ethnic diversity because it served as the royal mint." As Bohemia's second most important city and financial hub, Kuttenberg attracted people from various regions worldwide, making it significantly more cosmopolitan than other locations featured in the series.
Bittner highlighted several cultural elements incorporated into the game, including Italian merchants, German-speaking residents, a Jewish quarter, and more. He emphasized, "We believe it's crucial not merely to include these groups, but to represent their worldviews - something often missing in games and media claiming to promote diversity."
Stolz-Zwilling clarified that neither publisher Plaion nor Embracer instructed Warhorse Studios to push specific agendas, noting that only community反馈 influenced KCD2's development approach. "Every inclusion is justified. We've thoroughly researched and verified all elements," he assured.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Pre-Orders Remain Stable Despite Controversy
Warhorse Studios has addressed recent rumors about players seeking refunds for pre-orders following the backlash. KCD2 Writer Daniel Vávra clarified on Twitter (X) that the game's sales-return ratio remains unchanged despite the controversy. He noted that KCD2's position on Steam charts dipped weeks earlier because nine popular games received discounts, which similarly affected Monster Hunter: Wilds pre-order numbers.
In January 2025, Vávra faced criticism regarding KCD2's queer representation, sparking online rumors about the game being banned in Saudi Arabia due to unskippable LGBT+ scenes. He denied these claims, reiterating that "As a ROLE-PLAYING GAME, players determine their own choices and face consequences aligned with the period's moral and social standards."
