The DOOM franchise's adaptability knows no bounds, as evidenced by a recent feat of technical prowess. A tech enthusiast, NyanSatan, successfully ran the classic DOOM game on Apple's Lightning/HDMI adapter.
The adapter, as NyanSatan explains, utilizes iOS-based firmware and a processor clocking up to 168 MHz. The process involved accessing the adapter's firmware and subsequently executing the game. A MacBook was necessary for firmware transfer due to the adapter's lack of internal memory.
Meanwhile, news on a new DOOM iteration reveals increased accessibility features. DOOM: The Dark Ages will allow players to adjust demon aggression in the game's settings. This focus on accessibility is a core development principle, according to executive producer Marty Stratton. DOOM: The Dark Ages promises far more customization options than previous id Software titles.
Players will have granular control over enemy damage and difficulty, projectile speed and damage, as well as broader gameplay elements such as tempo, aggression levels, and parry timing.
Stratton further clarified that prior experience with DOOM: The Dark Ages isn't required to understand the storylines of either DOOM: The Dark Ages or DOOM: Eternal.
