PlayStation Plus subscribers will get five extra days for free

Sony addressed a significant PlayStation Network (PSN) outage that impacted users for nearly 24 hours this past weekend. While the company acknowledged an "operational issue" in a social media statement, specific details regarding the cause and preventative measures remain undisclosed.

To compensate affected users, PlayStation Plus subscribers will receive a five-day extension to their subscriptions, automatically applied to their accounts.

During the outage, gamers encountered widespread disruptions, with over one-third unable to log in and others reporting server crashes.

Sony's requirement of a PSN account, even for single-player PC games, has drawn criticism, and this outage further fuels concerns among players who oppose this policy.

This is not an isolated incident; a major data breach in April 2011 resulted in over 20 days of connectivity problems. Although less severe than the 2011 event, the recent outage has left many PS5 users dissatisfied with the lack of detailed explanation and transparency from Sony.
