Konami Unveils Mobile Suikoden Game: STAR LEAP

The iconic Suikoden series is making a comeback, albeit in a different form. Konami, in collaboration with MYTHRIL, has announced Suikoden STAR LEAP, an upcoming free-to-play mobile RPG for both Android and iOS devices. While an exact release date hasn't been disclosed, fans can expect it to launch later this year.

For those unfamiliar, Suikoden first debuted in 1995. This beloved series of RPGs, developed and published by Konami and created by Yoshitaka Murayama, draws inspiration from the classic Chinese novel, Water Margin, and is known in Japan as Suikoden. The franchise is renowned for its intricate tales of political intrigue, the mystical True Runes, and the legendary 108 Stars of Destiny. With 11 entries, including spin-offs, the last release was in 2012. Instead of a direct sequel or a full revival, Konami is introducing Suikoden STAR LEAP as a mobile game.

What's in Store?

Suikoden STAR LEAP features an entirely new ensemble of characters while maintaining the series' signature tradition of assembling 108 heroes. The game stays true to its roots with nostalgic pixel art, as showcased in the teaser trailer below.

The narrative centers on the Rune of Change, one of the 27 True Runes that have shaped the world. The protagonist, Hou, the son of the village chief, celebrates his first successful hunt before disaster strikes—his village is attacked, setting him on a transformative journey. Accompanied by Hisui, a servant with suppressed emotions, Shirin, a childhood friend driven by justice, and Shapur, a former general now serving as a butler, Hou embarks on a quest to restore peace.

However, not all Suikoden fans are thrilled about this new direction. The community has been eagerly awaiting a proper continuation of the series, and the introduction of Suikoden STAR LEAP as a gacha game has sparked mixed reactions. We'll have a clearer picture once the game is released. In the meantime, keep an eye on the official website for the latest updates.
