It wouldn't be a Nintendo console without a Zelda, and the Nintendo Switch 2 is no exception, though it came in a form we weren't expecting. During today's Nintendo Direct, we learned that Koei Tecmo is crafting a new Hyrule Warriors game, a prequel to Tears of the Kingdom titled Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment. This exciting addition to the franchise is set to launch this winter.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment dives into the ancient history of Tears of the Kingdom, featuring a cast of characters from that era. Expect to see Zelda, Rauru, Sonia, and other Secret Stone holders. In the trailer, we got a glimpse of the champions' unique abilities, including Mineru piloting her mech, Zelda wielding powerful magic, Rauru brandishing a striking sword-spear, and brief appearances of other Sacred Stone wielders.
This marks the third installment in the Hyrule Warriors series, following the original Hyrule Warriors and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, which served as a prequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Age of Calamity was particularly notable for its unexpected narrative twists, earning a 9/10 from us for being "a joy to play and discover" and "a blast from start to finish."
