Elden Ring is set to make its way to the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025, a thrilling announcement revealed by Nintendo during its Switch 2 Direct. While specifics on how this version will compare to those on other platforms remain under wraps, the inclusion in today's presentation hints at the arrival of Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition for Nintendo fans sometime this year.
Since its release in February 2022, Elden Ring has become a cultural phenomenon, selling over 13 million copies in its first month and reaching nearly 29 million units sold to date. The game has seen innovative playthroughs, such as bosses being defeated using the Nintendo Switch Ring Fit controller, and has sparked ambitious speedrunning challenges. Following its success, the incredible Shadow of the Erdtree DLC was released in 2023, and the cooperative spin-off, Elden Ring: Nightreign, is generating excitement through early public network test sessions. In our 10/10 review, IGN praised Elden Ring as "a massive iteration on what FromSoftware began with the Souls series, bringing its relentlessly challenging combat to an incredible open world that gives us the freedom to choose our own path." The Shadow of the Erdtree DLC also received a perfect score from us: "Like the base game did before it, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree raises the bar for single-player DLC expansions. It takes everything that made the base game such a landmark RPG, condenses it into a relatively compact 20-25 hour campaign, and provides fantastic new challenges for heavily invested fans to chew on."
FromSoftware has yet to disclose a specific release date for Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, nor has it detailed how this version will differ from previous releases. For more details on everything announced at the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, you can explore further here.
