Dune: Awakening Unveils Endgame Play Ahead of Launch

By AndrewNov 16,2025

Funcom encouraged us to "give them time to develop," and based on last night's Dune: Awakening showcase, the development team delivered. Just days before early access players begin their "head start" period, Funcom hosted a livestream featuring Dune: Awakening's mid-to-endgame content and a comprehensive tour of the Hagga Basin. The stream aimed to "highlight the scale and diversity players can anticipate," showcasing locations such as "the lush O’odham, the ominous Hagga Rift, and the towering spires and formidable rock formations of Jabal Eifrit, among others."

Drawing inspiration from Denis Villeneuve and Legendary Entertainment’s blockbuster films, Dune: Awakening offers players the first-ever opportunity to explore Arrakis in an open-world game. Until now, even beta testers had only experienced about 25% of the Hagga Basin, making this stream a grand reveal of "these vast and varied landscapes" in their full splendor.

"Before even venturing into the expansive dunes and perils of the Deep Desert, players will engage in a full-scale survival experience," Funcom revealed.

"They will advance through the ranks of either the Atreides or Harkonnen factions; construct powerful strongholds; challenge Imperial Testing Stations; craft advanced schematics; and explore and gather resources using various vehicles, along with many other activities." Additionally, the "Landsraad feature enables every player to contribute to their faction's progress, catering to both PvE and PvP preferences."

Dune: Awakening is an open-world survival MMO set on the universe's most perilous planet. You will master desert survival by adopting Fremen techniques and enhance your capabilities through combat, spice harvesting, construction, and trade. The game's release is scheduled for June 10, 2025, on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, following a three-week delay to address issues discovered during beta testing. However, players with an "early start" can begin playing five days earlier, starting June 5.

"As a longtime Dune enthusiast, it is incredibly satisfying to explore and delve deeper into a world I hold dear. Funcom has clearly invested significant effort into worldbuilding and lore, even while taking creative liberties by setting Awakening in a parallel reality distinct from the books and films," we noted in IGN's Dune: Awakening closed beta preview.

"Small details have a profound impact on gameplay. Without revealing spoilers, this meticulous attention to detail permeates nearly every aspect of the world, including the factions and characters encountered, which should delight any fan of the setting."
