Concord: A Hero Shooter Roadmap and Gameplay Strategies
Sony and Firewalk Studios' Concord launches August 23rd for PS5 and PC, and the developers have unveiled a detailed post-launch content roadmap. This article summarizes the upcoming updates and offers gameplay tips.
No Battle Pass Required
Unlike many hero shooters, Concord eschews a traditional battle pass. Firewalk Studios prioritized a rewarding base game experience, with meaningful rewards earned through gameplay, character leveling, and job completion. The focus is on making the game enjoyable without requiring a paid progression system.
Season 1: The Tempest (October 2024)
Concord's first major update, "The Tempest," arrives in October, introducing:
- A new playable Freegunner character.
- A brand-new map.
- Additional Freegunner Variants.
- New cosmetics and rewards.
- Weekly Cinematic Vignettes expanding the Northstar crew's story.
- An in-game store offering purely cosmetic items that won't affect gameplay balance.
Season 2 and Beyond
Season 2 is planned for January 2025, with Firewalk Studios committed to regular seasonal content drops throughout Concord's first year.
Gameplay Strategies and the Crew Builder System
Concord's "Crew Builder" system allows for unique team compositions. Players can build a five-Freegunner crew, with up to three copies of any Variant. This encourages diverse team builds to exploit different roles and unlock Crew Bonuses boosting mobility, weapon recoil, cooldowns, and more.
Unlike traditional "Tank" or "Support" roles, Concord's Freegunners are designed for high DPS and effective gunfights. Six roles—Anchor, Breacher, Haunt, Ranger, Tactician, and Warden—define Freegunner impact, emphasizing area control, advantageous positioning, and flanking.
