Marvel icon Chris Hemsworth unveiled a Thor tribute video, igniting fears that the character may face his end in Avengers: Doomsday.
The video, titled "Thank You! The Legacy of Thor," showcases Hemsworth’s journey as Thor, from early audition footage to his role in 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder. While it could simply be a nostalgic reflection on a role he’s embodied since 2011, with Avengers: Doomsday now in production, some fans suspect it signals a final farewell to the God of Thunder.
Hemsworth included a heartfelt note in the video’s description:
“Portraying Thor has been one of the greatest privileges of my career. For 15 years, I’ve wielded Mjolnir and Stormbreaker as the God of Thunder, but what truly made it remarkable was sharing this journey with all of you. Your enthusiasm, support, and love for this character have meant the world to me.
“Thank you for making my Marvel Cinematic Universe experience unforgettable. Next stop, Doomsday!”
This message, paired with the tribute, has stirred unease among MCU fans, with many worried Hemsworth may be ready to retire his iconic hammer.
“Please don’t ever leave this role. We need you to stay,” one fan commented on the video. “Never stop being Thor,” another pleaded.
Social media reflects similar anxiety. “Thor’s definitely not making it through the next movie,” one X user posted. “He’s done for,” another echoed.
Marvel Cinematic Universe: Every Upcoming Movie and TV Show

Context fuels this speculation. Last year, Hemsworth admitted he “missed the mark” with the polarizing Thor: Love and Thunder, expressing a desire to deliver a stronger film for fans.
In a Vanity Fair interview, Hemsworth reflected that he leaned too heavily into eccentricity in Love and Thunder, which faltered compared to the widely praised Thor: Ragnarok, a film that revitalized the character with its comedic flair.
“I got lost in the improvisation and zaniness, becoming a caricature of myself,” Hemsworth admitted. “I didn’t nail it.” According to Vanity Fair, he feels he owes fans a better performance. Could Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars serve as that redemption, or would Thor 5 be a more fitting farewell?

The prospect of Thor 5 once seemed unlikely after Hemsworth, who has starred in eight Marvel Cinematic Universe films, hinted he’s prepared to “move on” from the character. Director Taika Waititi, who helmed Ragnarok and Love and Thunder, is also unavailable due to scheduling conflicts.
Marvel recently pushed Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars to December 2026 and December 2027, respectively. Alongside The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, these are the only MCU films with confirmed release dates.
