Capcom Revives Breath of Fire IV on PC, 25 Years Later

By EmilyMay 14,2025

After a 25-year wait, fans of the classic role-playing game, Breath of Fire IV, can finally experience it anew on PC, thanks to Capcom and GOG's Preservation Program. Originally released on PlayStation in Japan and North America in 2000, and later in Europe in 2001, the game saw a PC port in Europe and Japan in 2003. Now, it's back with a modern twist.

The story follows Ryu, a man with the unique ability to transform into a dragon, as he joins forces with other warriors to thwart an emperor's destructive ambitions. GOG has meticulously updated Breath of Fire IV for today's PCs, ensuring it's DRM-free and fully optimized for systems running Windows 10 and 11. Players can enjoy the game in both English and Japanese, with enhanced graphics courtesy of an upgraded DirectX renderer. New display options like Windowed Mode, V-Sync, Anti-Aliasing, and refined gamma correction enhance the visual experience, while an upgraded audio engine restores missing environmental sounds and offers new configuration options.
