Bandai Namco to Shut Down PAC-MAN Mobile Game

Bandai Namco has announced the shutdown of PAC-MAN Mobile, a decision that feels particularly ironic as the legendary icon celebrates its 45th anniversary this year. Launched over a decade ago, this version of the game, previously known as PAC-MAN + Tournaments, offered much more than just the classic arcade experience.

When Is the PAC-MAN Mobile Shutdown?

The official shutdown date for PAC-MAN Mobile is set for May 30th, 2025. In-app purchases have already been discontinued as of April 1st, but players can continue enjoying the game until the final date. Many fans have voiced their disappointment, suggesting that an offline version would have been preferable, allowing them to continue playing while still generating revenue for Bandai Namco.

PAC-MAN Mobile wasn't just about recapturing the classic arcade vibes. It featured an 8-bit arcade mode, a Story Mode with numerous original mazes, an Adventure Mode with limited-time themed events offering exclusive skins, and a Tournament Mode with weekly maze challenges across three difficulty levels. The game also included a variety of skins for PAC-MAN, the ghosts, and even the joystick.

The Reason

The decision to shut down the game stems from persistent issues that have plagued it for years. Accumulating bugs and other technical problems have likely contributed significantly to this decision. The initial launch on Android saw players enthusiastically grinding for high scores and striving to climb leaderboards, which was a fun and engaging experience at the time.

If you're eager to play PAC-MAN Mobile one last time before its shutdown, you can download it from the Google Play Store.
