A 30-40 Hour Main Campaign Awaits
Prepare for an immersive journey! Assassin’s Creed Shadows (AC Shadows) boasts a main campaign clocking in at approximately 30-40 hours. During the Kyoto Showcase Event, Genki Gamer interviewed Creative Director Jonathan Dumont, revealing this and much more.
Dumont confirmed a 30-40 hour main campaign, complemented by over 80 hours of side content. Excitingly, a New Game+ mode is under consideration, a feature highly requested by fans following the absence of this mode in AC Valhalla. The team plans to incorporate additional game modes based on player feedback.
Dumont highlighted AC Shadows' key features: a dynamic world with realistic seasons and weather, innovative gameplay mechanics, a vastly expanded and customizable Hideout, and a new Animus story that will weave into future Assassin’s Creed titles.
A Japanese-Themed Assassin's Creed Dream Realized
Dumont shared the team's passion for creating a Japan-centric Assassin’s Creed game, a long-held ambition. He explained that the game’s development required technological advancements to accurately depict the natural world of Japan, alongside a compelling narrative.
Drawing inspiration from classic Japanese films like 13 Assassins, Sekigahara, Zatoichi, and Kurosawa's works, AC Shadows incorporates a unique Assassin’s Creed perspective. Dumont acknowledged the online discussions surrounding the game, particularly concerning Yasuke's portrayal, and emphasized the team's commitment to addressing constructive criticism.
The team remains focused on delivering an exceptional game and showcasing their dedication to Japanese players.
Deep Dive into the Hideout: Your Customizable Brotherhood Base
The Secret Valley of Izumi Settsu
On March 5th, 2025, AC Shadows unveiled a detailed look at the Hideout on their official website. Nestled in the secluded valley of Izumi Settsu province, this serves as the player's operational base for building their Brotherhood.
Systems Associate Director, Dany, described the Hideout's ambition: "After fortresses, villas, homesteads, pirate coves… we knew that if we wanted to make anything new, we had to take a bold step forward. That meant giving players complete freedom to build their homebase."
Players receive a full acre of land for customization, placing buildings, pavilions, pathways, and more. Dany stated, "We really want players to make the Hideout their own. Customization options unlock as you progress, reflecting your journey."
A League of Your Own
The Hideout houses various characters with individual backstories and challenges. Their placement influences interactions, with combat-focused characters frequenting the Dojo, and others enjoying sake in the Zashiki.
This dynamic system unlocks unique dialogue between characters, fostering a sense of community. Dany highlighted the collaborative writing process: "Having our allies together creates opportunities for character development. The writers created interactions based on questions like, 'What if these two characters became roommates?' It makes the Hideout feel like the beating heart of the league."
With its immersive features, Assassin’s Creed Shadows promises an authentic Japanese experience within the Assassin’s Creed universe.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows launches March 20, 2025, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Stay updated with the latest news via [link to article]!
