Yuji Horii: Dragon Quest 12 Details to Unfold Gradually

By ChloeMay 01,2025

Dragon Quest 12 remains in active development, with series creator Yuji Horii assuring fans that information will be released "little by little." During a livestream with his radio show group KosoKoso Hōsō Kyoku, as reported by Automaton, Horii emphasized that the development team at Square Enix is "working hard" on the project. This marks the first update on Dragon Quest 12 since May 2024, following the somber announcements of the passing of the series' iconic character designer Akira Toriyama and composer Koichi Sugiyama. Additionally, lead producer Yu Miyake had already transitioned to lead Square Enix's mobile game division by that time.

Amidst concerns of potential cancellation due to restructuring at Square Enix and a dearth of updates, Horii's recent comments offer reassurance that Dragon Quest 12 is indeed moving forward. The game was initially announced as part of the series' 35th anniversary celebration and will be the first mainline entry since 2017's Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age. Currently, all we have to go on is the logo released in 2021, which you can see below.

In other news, Square Enix reported that the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake has surpassed sales expectations, having sold 2 million copies. This success underscores the enduring popularity of the Dragon Quest franchise as fans eagerly await further details on Dragon Quest 12.
