V for Vendetta Is Reportedly Getting an HBO TV Series

By AdamMay 11,2026

V for Vendetta is reportedly being developed as an HBO series.

Variety reports today that Peter Jackson, known for his work on The Lord of the Rings, will write the adaptation of the comic series, with DC’s James Gunn and Peter Safran, Poison Pen’s Ben Stephenson, and Wall to Wall Media’s Leanne Klein serving as executive producers. No further details are currently available regarding the cast or how much of the comic the series will adapt.

V for Vendetta is a graphic novel series by Alan Moore, illustrated by David Lloyd, originally published in the 1980s as part of the British comics anthology Warrior. The story follows V, a revolutionary masked with a Guy Fawkes mask, as he wages a relentless campaign to dismantle a fascist regime that has seized control of a dystopian Britain. He forms an alliance with Evey Hammond, a young woman he rescues from the secret police, who gradually embraces his ideals and ultimately his mission.

In recent years, the series has gained even greater recognition thanks to the 2005 film written and co-produced by Lana and Lilly Wachowski. The film presented a condensed version of the graphic novel’s narrative, starring Hugo Weaving as V and Natalie Portman as Evey. Just days ago, it was announced that the film will return to theaters in 2026 to commemorate its 20th anniversary.

A V for Vendetta television series was previously proposed as a sequel to the show Pennyworth, which centered on Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce Wayne’s butler, in 1960s London. The series was unfortunately canceled after its third season and never established a link to V for Vendetta. It’s a shame—many of us truly loved the show.
