Conquer the challenging enemies in *Avowed* by upgrading your gear. This guide explains how to enhance your weapons and armor to keep pace with the increasing difficulty.
Where to Upgrade Weapons and Armor in *Avowed*

In Avowed, weapon and armor upgrades happen at Workbenches (pictured above). Each upgrade requires specific materials, varying by weapon/armor type and quality. Most materials are readily found or crafted; however, advancing a weapon's quality requires increasingly rare Adra.
Workbenches are located at Party Camps, established near Adra Waystones. Locate a Waystone, interact with it to set up camp, and the camp (marked by a tent icon on your map) becomes a fast-travel point.
Understanding Weapon and Armor Leveling in *Avowed*
Avowed uses two systems to track gear power: Quality and additional upgrade tiers. Quality is denoted by a numerical value, color, and adjective (e.g., Common, Fine, Exceptional, Superb, Legendary). These correspond to enemy levels in the Living Lands; using lower-quality gear against stronger enemies results in reduced effectiveness. Conversely, matching or exceeding enemy quality provides significant combat advantages. Here's a breakdown of weapon qualities:
- Common – Green, Level I
- Fine – Blue, Level II
- Exceptional – Purple, Level III
- Superb – Red, Level IV
- Legendary – Gold, Level V
Each Quality allows for three additional upgrade tiers (+0 to +3). While less impactful than Quality increases, these tiers still boost stats and must be maxed before advancing to the next Quality.
Which Weapons and Armor to Upgrade

Beyond Quality and upgrade tiers, Avowed categorizes gear as standard or unique. Standard gear is common loot or merchant purchases, while unique gear (named items) is obtained through quests or boss drops. Unique gear offers superior stats, perks, and can reach Legendary quality, unlike standard gear (maxing at Superb). Prioritize upgrading unique items, using standard gear temporarily and selling or dismantling it for resources.
That's how to upgrade weapons and armor in *Avowed*. Enjoy the game!
