Sydney Sweeney Stars in Split Fiction Film Adaptation

By SarahMay 18,2025

Sydney Sweeney, known for her role in *Madame Web*, is set to star in the upcoming film adaptation of the hit video game *Split Fiction*. The project, spearheaded by video game adaptation specialists Story Kitchen, is gaining momentum with acclaimed director Jon M. Chu of *Wicked* fame at the helm. The screenplay is penned by the dynamic duo behind *Deadpool & Wolverine*, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. As the talent package is shopped around to Hollywood studios, anticipation builds for what is expected to be a competitive bidding war.

One of the burning questions surrounding the film is which of the game's twin sisters, Zoe or Mio, Sweeney will portray. Variety reports that the decision is still pending.

The game, which is also slated as a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2, received high praise from IGN, scoring a 9/10. Our review lauded it as "an expertly crafted co-op adventure that pinballs from one genre extreme to another, Split Fiction is a rollercoaster of constantly refreshed gameplay ideas and styles – and one that’s very hard to walk away from."

Hazelight isn't stopping at *Split Fiction*. Another of their blockbuster titles, *It Takes Two*, which sold over 23 million copies, is also in the pipeline for a film adaptation, rumored to feature Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

While there's always a risk that these ambitious projects might not come to fruition, the current wave of successful video game adaptations suggests a strong appetite in Hollywood for bringing these stories to the big screen.

Story Kitchen, the force behind *Split Fiction*'s adaptation, has been busy. Last year, they announced a film based on Square Enix's *Just Cause*, with *Blue Beetle* director Ángel Manuel Soto attached. They're also working on adaptations of *Dredge: The Movie*, *Kingmakers*, *Sleeping Dogs*, and even a live-action *Toys 'R' Us* movie.

Meanwhile, Hazelight is already teasing their next game, keeping fans eagerly awaiting what's next from the innovative studio.
