By GabrielMar 21,2025

DC Comics has announced Superman Unlimited, a new monthly series launching in May 2025, marking the return of Marvel Comics veteran writer Dan Slott to the DC Universe. Slott, renowned for his work on Marvel titles like The Amazing Spider-Man, She-Hulk, and Fantastic Four, will be writing this new Superman series. While Slott has contributed to various DC books earlier in his career, including Arkham Asylum: Living Hell and Batman Adventures, he has been primarily associated with Marvel for the past two decades.

Superman Unlimited pairs Slott with artist Rafael Albuquerque (known for American Vampire) and colorist Marcelo Maiolo. Slott expressed his excitement, stating, “He’s the first and the greatest superhero of all-time, and I’ve been waiting my whole life to tell stories about him…Rafael Albuquerque and I are going to take him—and you—to places you’ll want to escape to every month. Millions of surprising ideas for Superman, Lois, the supporting cast, classic rogues, and all-new friends and foes too. If you’ve never read a Superman book, a DC book, or any comic book before—or if you’ve been a Superman fan your entire life—you couldn’t ask for a better place to take the leap and go all in than Superman Unlimited #1.”

The series introduces a perilous new reality for Superman. A Kryptonite asteroid shower blankets the planet, empowering enemies like Intergang with weapons exploiting his greatest weakness. This necessitates Superman developing new technology and crime-fighting strategies to counter this unprecedented threat. Simultaneously, Clark Kent faces a transformed Daily Planet, following its merger with Morgan Edge's Galaxy Communications, transforming it into a global multimedia giant.

DC group editor Paul Kaminski compared the series' impact to Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness’s Superman/Batman in the early 2000s, highlighting the series’ focus on large-scale adventures while introducing a significant plot point: a massive new Kryptonite deposit. Kaminski described a world where even petty crimes utilize Kryptonite weaponry, creating a level of danger never before seen by Superman and his supporting cast. He further emphasized the contrast between Superman Unlimited's focus on super-villains empowered by Kryptonite and the recently launched Justice League Unlimited, which centers on unlimited superheroes.

The series begins with a 10-page prelude story in DC All In 2025 FCBD Special Edition #1, releasing May 3, 2025. Superman Unlimited #1 follows on May 21, preceding the July 11 release of James Gunn's Superman film.
