Starfield PS5 Release Rumors Surge After PlayStation Logo Spotted in Development

By SimonApr 09,2025

Speculation about Starfield coming to PlayStation 5 intensified over the weekend after eagle-eyed fans noticed a PlayStation logo on Bethesda's official Creations website. This logo was linked to a work-in-progress ship decals Creation for Starfield, which was subsequently removed. Despite this, the community is buzzing with the possibility that Bethesda's sci-fi epic, which has been exclusive to PC and Xbox, might soon make its way to the PS5.

The appearance of the PlayStation logo has led to speculation about whether Bethesda is planning a significant content update or even a new expansion to coincide with a potential PS5 release. Following the lukewarm reception of the Shattered Space expansion, there's been a noticeable lull in Starfield news. However, Bethesda's parent company, Microsoft, is expected to host a summer showcase, which could be the perfect opportunity to unveil new developments for Starfield.

Bethesda has teased "exciting things" on the horizon for Starfield this year, amidst growing fan frustration over a lack of communication and updates. In a June 2024 interview with the YouTube channel MrMattyPlays, Bethesda Game Studios' Todd Howard reaffirmed their commitment to the game, promising at least one more story expansion after Shattered Space and aiming to release annual story expansions for "hopefully a very long time."

Starfield debuted in September 2023, marking Bethesda's first new intellectual property in years and their first major single-player game since Microsoft's acquisition of ZeniMax Media in March 2021. IGN's review gave Starfield a 7/10, praising its expansive roleplaying quests and solid combat while acknowledging the challenges it faced.

In January, Microsoft's gaming chief, Phil Spencer, hinted that Starfield might come to PS5. Reports from March 2024 suggested both Starfield and MachineGames' Indiana Jones and the Great Circle were being considered for PS5. While Indiana Jones was confirmed for PS5 with a spring 2025 release, Starfield remains unconfirmed, though Spencer's comments keep the possibility alive.

Several Xbox titles are already available on PS5, including Sea of Thieves, Hi-Fi Rush, Grounded, and Pentiment. Microsoft also publishes Minecraft on PlayStation and plans to release Doom: The Dark Ages and Ninja Gaiden 4 on PS5 later this year. Forza Horizon 5 is also set to hit PS5 soon, and there are whispers that even Halo might break its long-standing Xbox exclusivity.

Spencer has explained that Xbox's strategy to go multiplatform is driven by the need to increase revenue, particularly following the massive $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard. He emphasized the importance of delivering strong results for Microsoft, stating, "We run a business. It's definitely true inside of Microsoft the bar is high for us in terms of the delivery we have to give back to the company."

Bethesda Game Studios, with its 450-person team, is currently juggling multiple projects, including Starfield, Elder Scrolls 6, Fallout 76, mobile development, and external partnerships. As the studio continues to expand its reach and manage its portfolio, the gaming community eagerly awaits further announcements and updates on Starfield.
