Square Enix has put to rest any lingering doubts about the development of Kingdom Hearts 4 with a clear and enthusiastic message on social media. Accompanied by captivating images, the announcement leaves no room for uncertainty about the game's ongoing development.
Just a day prior, the company announced the cancellation of Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, a GPS-based action-RPG intended for mobile devices. Amidst this news, Square Enix took the opportunity to reassure fans that the team is diligently working on Kingdom Hearts 4.
"We’re currently working hard on Kingdom Hearts 4 and will continue pouring ourselves into the game’s development. We’re dedicated to making this an experience that lives up to your expectations!" declared the first of two posts. This message was accompanied by a collage of screenshots showcasing various characters, snippets of cinematics, combat sequences, platforming elements, and a glimpse of a formidable enemy.

"We’ve seen how excited you are, and we are truly grateful from the bottom of our hearts," the second post continued. "We are equally excited and can’t wait to share more about Kingdom Hearts IV when the time is right. Until then, we appreciate your patience. Thank you for your continued support."
This update marks the first substantial news about the eagerly awaited sequel in months, following a tiny, cryptic tease for Kingdom Hearts 4 back in January. Despite the game being unveiled in September 2022 with a full cinematic trailer, Square Enix had remained largely silent until now.
Tetsuya Nomura, the series director, has previously hinted that Kingdom Hearts 4 will, after 22 years and 18 games, start to steer the Kingdom Hearts narrative towards its conclusion.
Regarding the cancellation of the action-RPG Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, Square Enix expressed its "heartfelt apologies to everyone who have been looking forward" to the game. The decision to cancel was made because it was "determined that it would be difficult [...] to offer a service that players would find satisfactory over a long period of time."
