Space Marine 2 Dev Says Game Still Supported Despite Space Marine 3 Hype

The unexpected announcement that Space Marine 3 had entered development sent shockwaves through the Warhammer 40,000 community, raising concerns about Space Marine 2's future support.

Publisher Focus Entertainment and developer Saber Interactive revealed Space Marine 3 in mid-March—just six months after Space Marine 2's release—amst existing player concerns about ongoing content updates.

In a new blog post, both companies addressed these worries directly, pledging continued support for Space Marine 2 while making significant announcements about upcoming content.

"When we announced Space Marine 3's development in mid-March, we were thrilled by your enthusiasm, though we understand concerns about Space Marine 2's future," the statement read.

"Let's be clear: Space Marine 3 doesn't signal the end of Space Marine 2's development. No teams are transitioning, no one is abandoning the game, and our commitment to delivering more exciting content remains unchanged."

What's Coming to Space Marine 2

Space Marine 2 will maintain its Year One roadmap, with Patch 7 arriving in mid-April. The developers also revealed plans for a new character class, additional PvE operations, and fresh melee weapons in coming months. "Even data miners haven't uncovered all our surprises :)" the statement hinted.

"This announcement simply marks the beginning of a new project still years from launch. We've made the decision and just started the process."

"Your excitement motivates us tremendously. Thank you for your continued support."

"Rest assured, we still have much more planned for Space Marine 2 players."

Community Speculation Heats Up

While the new class hasn't been officially confirmed, most speculation points to either an Apothecary (the Space Marine equivalent of a medic) or a Librarian class featuring warp-powered abilities. Regarding melee weapons, fan discussions have particularly highlighted the axe from Warhammer 40,000's acclaimed animated episode—a weapon so popular that modders have already implemented unofficial versions.

The decision to greenlight Space Marine 3 follows Space Marine 2's commercial success. In an interview with IGN after launch, Saber Interactive CCO Tim Willits hinted at potential story DLC and early Space Marine 3 concepts—strongly suggesting narrative continuity between the titles.
