On April 9, Sega took to Twitter (X) to announce that Sonic Rumble will hit the global market on May 8, 2025. Accompanying this news was a fresh trailer, offering a glimpse into the game's dynamic gameplay.

Sonic Rumble marks the franchise's debut into multiplayer party gaming, allowing up to 32 players to compete across varied levels and challenges. Sega describes the game as a "toy world" crafted by the notorious Dr. Eggman, filled with obstacle courses and perilous arenas for players to navigate using characters from the Sonic universe.

As a free-to-play title, questions about potential pay-to-win elements surfaced. However, Sonic Rumble Director Makoto Tase addressed these concerns during the Tokyo Game Show 2024, stating to Automaton in September 2024, "We’re aiming for a casual system that allows you to just buy what you want quickly for a small, fixed amount, rather than a gacha system that gives you a certain probability of obtaining items."

Following the release date announcement, Sega shared that Sonic Rumble has now surpassed 900,000 pre-registrations. This milestone achievement unlocks a series of in-game rewards for players, designed to enhance their early gameplay experience:
