While some groups, like Tomodachi Life enthusiasts, are thrilled after today's Nintendo Direct, others are less enthused. The Hollow Knight: Silksong community, in particular, is donning their metaphorical clown makeup again, as no new trailer for the eagerly awaited sequel appeared at the event.
Thankfully, another showcase is slated for next week.
Of course, now we wait for April 2nd

The Silksong fanbase has been caught in a whirlwind of hope and letdown for some time. A quick visit to their subreddit or Discord reveals a flood of memes and "silkposts" that dream up, predict, and jest about a game that feels perpetually out of reach. Last year, we reported on their rollercoaster ride during consecutive Directs, and again in January when a chocolate cake photo sparked a wild chase for a nonexistent ARG. From the outside, it’s tough to discern how much of this is genuine disappointment versus a close-knit group of fans finding humor in every new showcase announcement.
Nintendo Direct? That’s not until April 2nd

Yet, there’s something particularly weighty about the upcoming event. Hollow Knight first launched on PC, but its popularity soared after hitting the Nintendo Switch the following year, tying it closely to Nintendo’s ecosystem in fans’ minds. Next week’s showcase carries extra significance: it’s a Nintendo Direct focused on unveiling the Nintendo Switch 2, likely showcasing both the console and potential launch titles. Could this be Silksong’s moment to shine? While first-party titles will dominate, Hollow Knight fans are clinging to hope that Silksong’s popularity secures it a spot at this landmark event—and that the game is finally polished for its big reveal.

Will Silksong fans face yet another heartbreak, perhaps the 50th since the game’s announcement? Quite possibly! Still, there are glimmers of hope. An Xbox Wire post on indie games mentioned Silksong recently, though it might’ve been tongue-in-cheek. More notably, recent updates to the game’s Steam listing, including a copyright year change, have fueled speculation. Then again, years of hype over fleeting console storefront listings have often led nowhere. So, who can say?

What we know for sure comes from Team Cherry’s marketing and publishing chief, Matthew 'Leth' Griffin, who said in January after the cake fiasco, "Yes, the game is real, progressing, and will release." For now, all we can do is wait, hope, and imagine life in a world where Silksong is finally here.
Prepare that clown makeup for next week, everyone!
