"Red Dead Redemption 2 Rumored for Nintendo Switch 2 by 2025 End, Next-Gen Patch Included"

By MaxJun 17,2025

A potential Nintendo Switch 2 port of Red Dead Redemption 2 could arrive by the end of 2025, with reports also pointing to a next-gen upgrade for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

This information comes from GameReactor, which cites sources "close to Rockstar" indicating that a Switch 2 version of the acclaimed Western title is in development. Alongside it, a “next-gen upgrade patch” is reportedly in the works, promising performance improvements not only for the Switch 2 but also for current-gen consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

While specifics remain limited, GameReactor’s sources suggest both the port and the enhancement patch could potentially launch as early as later this year.

This news aligns with earlier claims made by Nintenduo, which reported that the Switch 2 version of Red Dead Redemption 2 is expected to release within Take-Two's current fiscal year—ending March 31, 2026. It remains unclear whether the game will be available exclusively through digital storefronts or also offered as a physical release.

PlayWe praised *Red Dead Redemption 2* as a “masterpiece” at launch in 2018, awarding it a perfect score of 10/10. [IGN's Red Dead Redemption 2 review](#) stated: "*Red Dead Redemption 2* is a game of rare quality; a meticulously polished open-world ode to the outlaw era."

A Switch 2 port wouldn’t be entirely unexpected. During a recent investor Q&A session following Take-Two’s latest financial report, CEO Strauss Zelnick expressed strong optimism about Nintendo’s upcoming platform. He noted that Nintendo has improved its support for third-party developers compared to previous console launches.

"We're launching four titles with Nintendo Switch 2, and that's I think a bigger array of releases than we've ever offered before with a new Nintendo platform," Zelnick explained. "Historically, being a third-party in the Nintendo business has been a bit challenging. I think Nintendo has been very forthcoming in addressing that. And we're stepping up too, because we have great optimism for the platform."

He added, "In terms of what we would bring to any platform, we address it on a case-by-case basis. We obviously want to be where the consumers are. But we would not necessarily bring every title to every platform. There are also great catalog opportunities as well."

Take-Two is already set to launch several titles on the Switch 2 at launch, including Civilization 7 (June 5), entries in the NBA 2K and WWE 2K series, and Borderlands 4 (September 12). While these aren't groundbreaking choices—given they continue existing partnerships—the broader message from Zelnick hints at future possibilities, especially regarding back catalog titles.

Although GTA 6 seems unlikely to make the cut, older hits like GTA V or even Red Dead Redemption 2 could find a home on the Switch 2, further expanding access to Rockstar’s iconic library.
