PlayStation Stars Program Ends After Three Years

By BellaJun 15,2025

Sony has officially announced the discontinuation of its PlayStation Stars loyalty program, just under three years after its initial launch.

As of today, the program no longer accepts new members. Furthermore, any user who decides to cancel their membership will not be able to rejoin, and all accumulated reward points will be permanently deleted upon cancellation.

Existing members, however, can continue earning points until July 23, 2025. They will also have until November 3, 2026, to redeem any remaining point balance.

In addition, Sony has confirmed that Digital Collectibles associated with PlayStation Stars will remain accessible for the foreseeable future. This means you’ll still be able to view your exclusive 3D digital Jim Ryan bobblehead and other collectibles without immediate disruption.

“Since launching the program, we've learned a lot from evaluating the types of activities our players respond best to,” stated Grace Chen, Vice President of Network Advertising, Loyalty, and Licensed Merchandise at PlayStation, in an official blog post. “As a company, we are always evolving with player and industry trends. Through this evaluation, we have decided to refocus our efforts and will be winding down the current version of PlayStation Stars. We will continue to evaluate our key findings from this program and are looking into ways to build upon these learnings.”

At this time, Sony has not announced a replacement for the program, nor has it specified what insights were gained from the PlayStation Stars initiative.

PlayStation Stars debuted in July 2022 as a loyalty program designed to reward PS5 owners with points based on purchases made in the PlayStation Store, along with completing in-game tasks such as surveys or trying out new features.

The program was seen as a direct competitor to Microsoft’s Xbox Rewards. Over time, both loyalty schemes underwent changes that reduced their overall value to users. PlayStation Stars even experienced a month-long service outage last summer, followed by a series of modifications introduced in October—such as reducing the point expiration period from 24 to 12 months and removing PlayStation Plus subscriptions from the list of eligible purchases. Now, the entire program is being phased out entirely.
