Omori Cancels Switch and PS4 Physical Release in Europe
In a disappointing turn of events for fans, the European publisher of Omori, Meridiem Games, has announced the cancellation of the game's physical release for Nintendo Switch and PS4 in Europe. The announcement was made on Twitter(X), where the publisher cited technical difficulties with multilingual European localization as the reason behind this decision.
When queried by a Twitter(X) user about the specifics of these localization issues, Meridiem Games could not provide further details beyond their initial statement. This lack of clarity has left many fans seeking more information about the situation.
The game's physical release in Europe faced a series of delays. Initially scheduled for March 2023, it was postponed to December 2023, and then again to March 2024. Those who had pre-ordered through retailers like Amazon received notifications of a further delay to January 2025. Unfortunately, these repeated delays have now led to the complete cancellation of the physical release.
This news is particularly disheartening for fans in Europe, as it would have been the first time Omori was officially available in Spanish and other European languages. While European fans can still acquire physical copies of the game for Switch and PS4, they will need to import a US version to do so.
Omori is a psychological horror RPG that follows the journey of a young boy named Sunny, who retreats into isolation after experiencing a traumatic event. The narrative shifts between the real world and Sunny's dream world, where he adopts the identity of Omori. Originally launched on PC in December 2020, the game later expanded to include Switch, PS4, and Xbox platforms in 2022. However, due to an inappropriate T-shirt design sold by OMOCAT in 2013, the game was removed from the Xbox platform, making it unavailable for Xbox players.
