During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo announced that nearly all games from the Nintendo Switch catalog will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. Additionally, select titles are receiving enhanced "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" versions with unique features. These games include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree.
Each game's Nintendo Switch 2 Edition comes with distinct upgrades. Super Mario Party: Jamboree, for instance, introduces "Jamboree TV," which includes mouse controls, audio recognition, "more expressive rumble," and gameplay utilizing a new camera accessory.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom will feature improved resolution, framerate, and HDR support. Additionally, they will benefit from a new service on the Nintendo Switch Online app called Zelda Notes, which provides voice guidance for locating Shrines and Koroks, and the ability to share creations in Tears of the Kingdom via QR code with friends.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is set to receive a new story exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2 titled Star-Crossed World, along with enhanced graphics and framerates.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will support mouse controls and offer 4K resolution at 60fps with HDR. Meanwhile, Pokemon Legends: Z-A will boast improved resolution and framerates.
These upgraded games will be available in both physical and digital formats. Owners of the original versions on the Nintendo Switch can purchase upgrade packs for Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby to access the enhanced editions.

In addition to first-party titles, several third-party games are also getting Nintendo Switch 2 Editions. These include Civilization 7, which will support mouse controls, and Street Fighter 6, featuring exclusive game modes for the Switch 2.
The concept of "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games was hinted at last week through a footnote on a webpage about the newly-announced Virtual Game Card system, which stated that these editions cannot be transferred to the original Nintendo Switch via Virtual Game Card.
