Nintendo Comments on Latest Switch 2 Leak

Nintendo Responds to CES 2025 Switch 2 Leaks: "Not Official"

Nintendo has issued a rare public statement regarding the recent flurry of Switch 2 leaks stemming from CES 2025. The company confirmed that the circulating images and videos are not official Nintendo materials, citing their absence from the event. This unusual response highlights the significance of the leaks, which have been steadily surfacing since late 2024, possibly coinciding with the console's reported mass production.

One prominent leak featured a Switch 2 replica displayed by accessory manufacturer Genki at CES. The replica quickly gained traction on social media, prompting Nintendo's response to the Sankei Shimbun. A company representative simply stated that the images were "not official," emphasizing Nintendo's non-participation in CES 2025.

Despite the official denial, Genki's Replica Could Be Accurate

While Nintendo refrained from commenting on the replica's accuracy, its design aligns with previous leaks and rumors. The most noticeable differences from the original Switch are its slightly larger size and an additional button. This mystery button, resembling the capture button on the left Joy-Con, is located below the right Joy-Con's home button and labeled "C," with its function yet unknown.

Genki CEO Eddie Tsai offered additional insights, suggesting magnetic Joy-Con attachment instead of sliding rails, and the potential for mouse-like controller functionality—claims supported by other sources.

Nintendo's Previous Promises and Future Outlook

Nintendo previously announced a Switch successor reveal during fiscal year 2024 (ending March 31, 2025). With approximately 80 days remaining, anticipation remains high. However, a retail release isn't expected until at least the second quarter of 2025, with a rumored price point around $399.
