Netflix Cancels Stories, Keeps Old Content

By LiamMay 06,2025

Netflix has made the unexpected decision to cancel its Netflix Stories franchise, a move that marks a significant shift away from its narrative-driven gaming series. Titles such as Love is Blind, Perfect Match, and Virgin River, which have garnered a fair amount of popularity, will still be accessible to players. However, any plans for future releases in this series have been put on indefinite hold.

This news, while more on the business side, has sparked interest and concern among players regarding the future direction of Netflix Games. Initially, it appeared that Netflix was moving towards a strategy focused on narrative games that could complement its television and film offerings. The abrupt cancellation of Netflix Stories, however, suggests that this approach might be abandoned, prompting speculation about potential new strategies.

While it's premature to predict drastic changes like turning Netflix Games into a separate subscription service, the performance data is telling. As highlighted by Craig on .biz, Netflix Stories lagged behind more popular titles such as GTA: San Andreas and Squid Game Unleashed in terms of engagement. This could indicate a pivot back to porting established games and launching new, more visually appealing titles outside the narrative genre.

Interestingly, Paige from .biz has suggested that Netflix might be exploring the addition of party games to its lineup, perhaps even something like Jackbox. This topic was discussed by Will and me on the latest episode of the Pocket Gamer Podcast, so stay tuned for more insights.

Despite these shifts, there's still a wealth of gaming options available. Be sure to check out our list of the top five new mobile games to try this week for some great choices!
