Naughty Dog's Intergalactic Delayed Past 2026, Druckmann Says 'It's Incredible'

By EricApr 10,2025

With the wait for *The Witcher 4* extending into 2027, fans of Naughty Dog's newly announced *Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet* face a similar timeline. According to Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier on ResetEra, neither *The Witcher 4* nor *Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet* will see the light of day in 2026. This means *Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet* is slated for a release no earlier than 2027, raising questions about its target platform—whether it's aimed at the PlayStation 5, the upcoming PlayStation 6, or if it will be a cross-gen title.

If *Intergalactic* launches directly on the PS6, Naughty Dog risks bypassing the PS5 generation for new titles. So far, the studio has focused on ports, remasters, and remakes for Sony's current console, including *The Last of Us Part II*, *Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection*, *The Last of Us Part I*, and *The Last of Us Part II Remastered*.

Naughty Dog unveiled *Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet* at The Game Awards 2024, showcasing a star-studded cast with Tati Gabrielle from the *Uncharted* movie playing the protagonist, Jordan A. Mun, and Kumail Nanjiani of *Marvel's Eternals* as Colin Graves. Fans have been dissecting the trailer to uncover more about the cast, with a crew photo hinting at additional characters.

Earlier this month, *The Last of Us* director Neil Druckmann shared insights into *Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet*. In an interview with Alex Garland, the writer of the zombie film *28 Days Later*, Druckmann discussed the game's four-year development journey. He humorously reflected on the polarizing reception of *The Last of Us 2* and the creative decision to explore a less controversial theme with *Intergalactic*—a game centered around faith and religion.

Set in an alternate historical timeline, *Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet* explores a significant religion that has evolved over time. The story follows a bounty hunter, Jordan A. Mun, who crash-lands on a mysterious planet after communication with it ceased 600 years ago. Druckmann emphasized the game's focus on isolation and discovery, contrasting it with previous Naughty Dog titles that often included a constant companion.

Assuming *Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet* launches in 2027, and considering Druckmann's mention of four years of development so far, the game will have been in the works for six years by release. Despite the lengthy wait, Druckmann assured IGN at the premiere of *The Last of Us* Season 2 that the game is not only playable but "really good." He teased that the gameplay is "incredible" and promised a deep experience beyond what's been shown so far.
