MultiVersus Nears Shutdown: Warner Bros. Game Loses 99% of Players

Rumors are swirling around the future of MultiVersus, with insider AusilMV suggesting that Season 5 could be the game's final chapter. According to AusilMV, a reliable source has indicated that this upcoming season is a critical effort to revive the game's fortunes. While it's still just a rumor, the situation appears concerning.

When MultiVersus launched in 2022, it achieved remarkable success, reaching a peak of 153,000 concurrent players on Steam. However, the player base plummeted by 99% shortly afterward, prompting Warner Bros. Games to close the project in June 2023, labeling it an "open beta test." Despite a relaunch with updates in May 2024, the game struggled to recapture its initial popularity.

The fifth season of MultiVersus is set to kick off in early February, and it may represent the last opportunity for developers to rekindle player interest. This relaunch follows the game's initial 2022 release, which was retrospectively dubbed a "beta" by the developers. Although the game was warmly received at launch, the announcement in March 2023 of a temporary shutdown in June of that year left many players, particularly those who had purchased the premium edition to support the developers, feeling frustrated and disappointed.
