MindsEye, the action-adventure title from Leslie Benzies, formerly of Grand Theft Auto fame, launches today on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S. However, Xbox players will miss out on the critical day one patch at release.
In a Reddit post last night, MindsEye developer Build A Rocket Boy explained that due to "platform certification differences," the 16 GB patch will not be available on Xbox at launch, despite being "strongly recommended" for the intended gameplay experience.
"It delivers essential gameplay enhancements, visual improvements, stability fixes, and performance optimizations," the studio noted. The timeline for the Xbox patch remains unclear, with the team promising it "will be available as soon as possible."
Last week, Build A Rocket Boy urged players to wait for this update rather than playing early copies, which some criticized as a "technical mess."
"We want all players to enjoy the story simultaneously on launch day, free from preconceptions," the studio stated, addressing concerns about early copies. Xbox players now face a slightly longer wait.
The studio’s mention of bias fueled speculation among fans, with some pointing to co-CEO Mark Gerhard’s claims of a "coordinated effort" to undermine the game and studio through negative social media posts from paid accounts or bots.
IGN raised this claim with Hakan Abrak, head of IO Interactive, the publisher of MindsEye. Abrak responded, "I don’t buy into that. The game should stand on its own merits come June 10th."

MindsEye’s journey to release has been unconventional, initially unveiled as an episodic campaign within the now-scrapped Everywhere creative platform.
The game now centers on its story mode, with world customization via Everywhere’s toolset taking a backseat, though still available.
In MindsEye, players control Jacob Diaz, a former military drone pilot with a chip implant linking him to his equipment. The implant has fractured Diaz’s psyche, and players must unravel his past to uncover the truth.
