Veteran actor Michael Douglas, known for his role as the shrinking scientist Hank Pym in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), has announced that he is likely finished with the franchise after four appearances on the big screen. Douglas featured in all three Ant-Man films, with his latest being the 2023 release "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania," which received mixed reviews, as well as in "Avengers: Endgame."
As production begins on "Avengers: Doomsday," fans are left wondering if they will see Hank Pym one last time. However, Douglas has put those hopes to rest, stating in an interview with Deadline, "I don't think so. I had the experience, and I was excited to do it." Douglas has largely retired from acting, with his recent on-screen work limited to Marvel projects, while he continues his role as a producer, boasting over a dozen credits.
Reflecting on his time with Marvel, Douglas shared, "I'd never done a green screen picture before. But I'm enjoying my hiatus and enjoying my life. It was overwhelming running the production company and acting at the same time." He has previously expressed a desire for Hank Pym to be killed off in "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" to enhance the stakes for Paul Rudd's Ant-Man, but Marvel chose a different path for the character.

The underwhelming box office results of "Quantumania" have cast a shadow over the future of the Ant-Man series. Despite this, Paul Rudd is set to return as Ant-Man in "Avengers: Doomsday." As for the rest of the Ant-Man family, including Hank Pym, Michelle Pfeiffer's Janet Van Dyne, and Evangeline Lilly's Hope Van Dyne, their participation seems doubtful. In June 2024, Lilly announced her decision to step away from acting to focus on her family, further diminishing the chances of her character Wasp appearing in the upcoming Avengers film.
With the lineup for "Avengers: Doomsday" still unfolding, a recent leak from the set has revealed a surprising return of a location from "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier," sparking excitement and speculation among fans about what else might be in store.
