The vibrant Mushroom Kingdom scenery transforms into high-speed action sequences with Sonic, hinting at what such a cinematic blend could look like.
The success of the *Super Mario Bros.* and *Sonic the Hedgehog* movie adaptations, which collectively earned over $2 billion globally, served as inspiration for the creators behind this trailer. Although a formal partnership between Nintendo and Sega’s legendary characters remains unlikely due to their storied rivalry, the idea captivated fans worldwide.
In the meantime, audiences can look forward to sequels from both franchises: *Super Mario Bros. at the Movies 2* is set for release in 2026, while *Sonic 4 at the Movies* will debut in 2027.
In December, the collaboration between McDonald’s, Sega, and Paramount came to light. Sonic made his debut in the U.S., following McDonald’s previous toy releases in 2022, when fans hoped for another joint venture with Sega and Paramount for the franchise’s third film. Amidst speculation, McDonald’s finally introduced a new Sonic character for Colombian consumers.
