Exciting news for fans of handheld PC gaming: the Lenovo Legion Go S with SteamOS is now available for preorder at Best Buy. This marks the first time a company other than Valve has produced a device running SteamOS, the Linux-based operating system used on the Steam Deck. The Lenovo Legion Go S with SteamOS will be available starting May 25, with prices beginning at $549.99. Let's explore the specifics.

The SteamOS-powered Lenovo Legion Go S comes in two configurations. The first model features an AMD Ryzen Z2 Go chip, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD, priced at $549.99, matching the cost of the 512GB OLED Steam Deck. The second, more powerful option includes an AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme chip, 32GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD, priced at $749.99.

Both models offer a 120Hz gaming experience and come equipped with two USB-C ports. You can easily expand the storage using a microSD card. Additionally, these handhelds feature trigger locks for hair triggers, perfect for competitive gaming in titles like Marvel Rivals.

With more powerful chips than the Steam Deck, the Lenovo Legion Go S should be capable of running recent games that might be challenging for the Deck, including titles like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Star Wars Outlaws, Dragon's Dogma 2, and Monster Hunter Wilds.

It's important not to confuse these SteamOS-based models with the earlier released Windows 11-based Lenovo Legion Go S. Valve has also announced that SteamOS will soon be available for other non-Steam Deck handhelds. This means you'll be able to install SteamOS on a variety of handheld gaming PCs in the near future, potentially coinciding with the launch of these new Legion Go S models. If you're looking for a device more powerful than the Steam Deck to run SteamOS, the Lenovo Legion Go S should be at the top of your list.
