HBO has offered a sneak peek at its upcoming "Lanterns" TV series, featuring Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart. While the iconic green suits are absent from the initial image, a Power Ring is subtly visible on Chandler's hand.

Described as a detective drama reminiscent of "True Detective" and "Slow Horses," "Lanterns" follows Jordan and Stewart as they investigate a murder that spirals into a far more complex mystery. The series is officially part of James Gunn's expansive DC universe, alongside projects like "Creature Commando" and the upcoming "Superman" and "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" films.

The show, developed by Damon Lindelof (of "Lost" fame), Chris Mundy, and Tom King, promises a darker, more grounded tone. Gunn himself describes it as "very grounded, very believable, very real," a departure from typical Green Lantern portrayals.

Chandler, known for his role in "Friday Night Lights," portrays an older Hal Jordan, while Aaron Pierre, who starred in "Rebel Ridge," joins the cast. A 2026 premiere is anticipated, coinciding with the release of the "Supergirl" movie.
