Keanu Reeves Recently Pitched DC Studios on Constantine 2 — and It’s Now Ready for a Script

Keanu Reeves has just given fans the most exciting update yet on the long-awaited sequel to the cult classic, Constantine. The actor, who portrayed the iconic occult detective John Constantine in the 2005 film, recently confirmed that a pitch meeting with DC Studios has resulted in a green light to develop a script for Constantine 2. "We've been trying to make this film for over a decade, and we just recently put a story together and pitched it to DC Studios and they said, ‘Okay,’" Reeves shared with Inverse. "So, we're going to try and write a script."

John Constantine, a character from DC Comics, has captured the hearts of fans since Reeves brought him to life following his success with The Matrix. Despite the fervent demand for a sequel over the past two decades, it seems that Constantine 2 is finally moving forward. However, it's important to note that while the script is in development, there is no guarantee it will be approved by DC Studios co-chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran. Constantine 2 has not been officially confirmed as part of the rebooted DCU, nor has it been mentioned by Gunn or Safran as a potential project.

Reeves teased that if the sequel comes to fruition, it will be set in the same universe as the original film. "We're not going off that," he assured, adding humorously, "John Constantine's going to be tortured even more." This follows comments from producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who revealed in September that a script for Constantine 2 was already in his inbox. Speaking to ComicBook, di Bonaventura admitted, "You know it's in my inbox right now, funny enough. I'm too scared to read it, though, I want it to be good so bad. I’ll probably read it in the next few days, when I get on an airplane."
