By SarahMay 12,2025

IGN has exciting news for fans of Hollow Knight: Silksong: the highly anticipated game will be playable at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) in Melbourne starting September 18, 2025. As one of the most eagerly awaited games globally, Silksong has consistently topped the Steam wishlist charts. Developed by Team Cherry, a studio based in Adelaide, South Australia, the game's release date remains elusive, pegged only to a broad 2025 window. However, this upcoming exhibition at ACMI offers fans a chance to experience it firsthand.

The game will be a centerpiece of the Game Worlds exhibition at ACMI, which will also feature insights into Silksong's design and artistic direction. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the intricate details of the game, including the hundreds of sprites that animate the protagonist Hornet’s various movements and attacks, and the complex logic behind the game’s challenging boss fights.

ACMI co-curators Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell expressed their enthusiasm, stating, "Since Hollow Knight: Silksong's initial announcement in 2019, it has been one of the most anticipated indie games on the planet – and we are thrilled to celebrate the design of this South Australian-made game as a centrepiece of Game Worlds in September. From the hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet’s different movements and attacks, to the logic behind the game’s most challenging boss fights – and of course, having the game playable in-gallery – our Silksong displays delve deeply into the details of the game's artistic direction and design. We’re so grateful to Team Cherry for trusting us with their work, and so excited to share that work with you!"

ACMI also shared a sprite sheet from Silksong, showcasing one of several design elements that will be on display at the Game Worlds exhibition. This image, provided to IGN with permission, gives fans a glimpse into the detailed artistry of the game.

With Silksong set to be playable at ACMI from September 18, speculation is rife about the game's release date. It's likely that the game will be released before this date to ensure it's ready for the exhibition. An August launch seems plausible.

The anticipation around Hollow Knight: Silksong continues to build. The game made a brief appearance at Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct last month, confirming the 2025 release window and offering a fleeting look at new gameplay. This was the most substantial update on Silksong in years.

Originally planned for Nintendo Switch and PC, with subsequent releases planned for Xbox (and Game Pass), PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5, Silksong has been at the heart of numerous intriguing teases. Team Cherry started 2025 with a mysterious tease involving a chocolate cake recipe, sparking hope among fans for a re-reveal in April.
