Arrowhead Game Studios has directly responded to community worries that development focus might shift from Helldivers 2 to their upcoming "Game 6" project. Following the recent Illuminate invasion update, CEO Shams Jorjani engaged with fans on Discord to provide clarity.
Development Priorities Clarified
"Thanks to our incredible community's support, Arrowhead can explore exciting new concepts we couldn't have considered before. Game 6 will benefit tremendously from your involvement," Jorjani stated, before quickly adding: "However, our immediate focus remains entirely on Helldivers 2. A small exploratory team will begin preliminary work later this year, but we're committed to Helldivers for the long haul."
When pressed about update longevity, Jorjani emphasized: "Continued playtime and Super Credits purchases allow us to sustain development. After some initial challenges last summer, your strong support has secured Helldivers 2's future." He particularly noted player purchases of Premium Warbonds as crucial for ongoing content.
Arrowhead's Independent Future
In response to concerns about regional availability for future projects, Jorjani revealed: "Our next title will be fully self-funded, giving us complete creative and distribution control." This statement suggests Arrowhead's next venture won't be a Sony-published sequel, but rather an original IP.
Reflecting on development lessons, Jorjani shared: "Most games struggle through lengthy development cycles. With our next project, we're focusing on perfecting core mechanics early through rigorous playtesting - a lesson learned from Helldivers 2's eight-year development journey."
Sustained Commitment to Helldivers
Production director Alex Bolle recently told IGN: "We envision Helldivers 2 as a multi-year project. As we master live operations, we'll introduce innovative systems while maintaining what makes Helldivers special." This aligns with PlayStation's record-breaking 12 million sales in 12 weeks - an unprecedented achievement for Sony's first-party portfolio.
The game's journey hasn't been without turbulence, including PSN account controversies and balancing debates. Yet developer enthusiasm remains undimmed, with recent leaks suggesting imminent expansions including playable Super Earth territory as the Illuminate threat escalates.
For those joining the galactic war, Helldivers 2 remains available through PlayStation Store. Meanwhile, Arrowhead prepares for its independent future while maintaining its flagship title's momentum.
