GTA 6 PC Release Hinted To Come At A Later Date

The anticipation for Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) continues to build, especially among PC gamers who are eager to know when they might get their hands on this highly anticipated title. While an official announcement for a PC version has yet to be made, statements from Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick and the release patterns of Rockstar Games suggest that GTA 6 could eventually make its way to PC. Dive deeper into the latest developments and what the future might hold for GTA 6.

GTA 6 on PC: Unconfirmed but Promising

In a recent interview with IGN on February 10, 2025, Strauss Zelnick shed light on Take-Two's approach to platform releases. While confirming that their upcoming game, Civilization 7, would launch simultaneously on console and PC, Zelnick hinted at a different strategy for other titles in their portfolio. He noted, "Historically, Rockstar has started with some platforms and then historically moved to other platforms."

This statement aligns with Rockstar's past release strategies. For instance, GTA 5 initially launched on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013, followed by PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in November 2014, and finally on PC in April 2015. Similarly, Red Dead Redemption 2 debuted on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in October 2018, with the PC version following in November 2019.

Although no official confirmation has been given for GTA 6 on PC, Zelnick's comments suggest a strong interest in eventually bringing the game to this platform. Fans have been hopeful that GTA 6 would break the trend and launch on PC simultaneously with consoles, but it appears the traditional staggered release approach might continue.

Take-Two's Confidence in GTA 6's Multiplatform Success

Zelnick also emphasized the growing significance of the PC market for their games, noting that PC versions can account for up to 40% of a game's total sales. He said, "We have seen PC become a much more and more important part of what used to be a console business, and I wouldn't be surprised to see that trend continue."

Despite a reported decline in console sales for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, Zelnick remains optimistic about GTA 6's performance across all platforms. He believes that the release of major titles like GTA 6 will not only boost their own sales but also stimulate the console market. "When you have a big title in the market and we have many of them coming, historically that has sold consoles," he explained.

Zelnick added, "And I think that will happen this year. I don't think tariffs are going to be our friend, but I think there will be a meaningful uptick in console sales in calendar 25 because of the release schedule, not just coming from us, but coming from others. So I'm not concerned about that [console sales falling]. I think the trend that you'd want to focus on is this increasing share of the market that is reflected in PC."

GTA 6 is slated for a Fall 2025 release, but specific dates remain under wraps. Stay tuned to our Grand Theft Auto 6 page for the latest updates and announcements.

During the Take-Two Interactive Q3 Fiscal Conference Call on February 6, 2025, Zelnick expressed enthusiasm about bringing their games to the upcoming Switch 2 console. He highlighted their long-standing relationship with Nintendo, stating, "We've had obviously a long-standing relationship with Nintendo, and we've supported the platform when it made sense for the individual release."

He further noted a shift in Nintendo's market focus, saying, "the Switch device can support any audience." This change in perspective is reflected in their decision to bring Civilization 7 to the Switch. Zelnick concluded, "As you may have noted, Civilization 7 is now on Switch. So while we have nothing specific to report, we actually would fully expect to support Switch."

This opens the possibility of seeing more Take-Two and Rockstar titles, including potentially GTA 6, on the Switch 2 in the future, broadening the gaming options for fans across different platforms.
