Final Fantasy VII Rebirth PC Version: Director Discusses Mods and DLC Possibilities
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi recently shared insights into the PC version of the game, addressing player questions about potential DLC and the modding community. The interview, published on the Epic Games blog on December 13th, revealed some interesting details.
DLC Dependent on Player Demand:
While the development team initially considered adding episodic DLC to the PC release, resource constraints led them to prioritize completing the final installment of the Remake trilogy. Hamaguchi stated that adding new content is not currently planned, but the team is receptive to strong player requests. Substantial player demand could influence their decision to create future DLC.
A Message to Modders:
The game doesn't officially support mods, but Hamaguchi acknowledged the inevitable interest from the modding community. He extended a welcome to creative modding, but with a crucial caveat: modders are asked to refrain from creating or distributing offensive or inappropriate content.
This request is understandable given the potential for misuse within online gaming communities. The positive impact of mods, from enhanced visuals to entirely new gameplay features, is acknowledged, but the need to maintain a respectful and appropriate gaming environment is paramount.
PC Version Enhancements:
The PC version boasts several improvements over the PS5 release. These include enhanced lighting and texture resolutions, addressing previous concerns about the "uncanny valley effect" in character models. Higher-end PCs will benefit from even more detailed 3D models and textures. The team also highlighted the challenges of adapting the mini-games for PC controls.
The PC version of FF7 Rebirth launches January 23rd, 2025, on Steam and the Epic Games Store. This release marks a significant step for the game, offering enhanced visuals and performance for PC players.
