Fans of the iconic Dragon Quest series have a treat in store, albeit exclusively for those in Japan. Dragon Quest X, the MMORPG-flavored entry that may have flown under the radar for some, is set to launch its offline version on mobile devices. Starting tomorrow, Japanese fans can dive into Dragon Quest X Offline on both iOS and Android platforms. What's more, this single-player experience comes at a discounted price, making it an even sweeter deal for enthusiasts.
As reported by Gematsu, this mobile release follows the offline version's debut on consoles and PC back in 2022, a decade after the original Dragon Quest X hit the market in 2012. Dragon Quest X Offline brings with it unique MMORPG elements like real-time combat, a departure from the traditional Dragon Quest gameplay. Interestingly, the journey to mobile wasn't always smooth; Ubitu had plans to bring Dragon Quest X to mobile devices back in 2013, but those plans never materialized.
Here be dragons
Unfortunately, for fans outside Japan, the prospects of a global release remain uncertain. While the original Dragon Quest X was also a Japan-only affair, there's been no concrete news about an international rollout for the offline mobile version. It's a disappointing development for avid Dragon Quest fans like myself, who have fond memories of immersing in titles like Sentinels of the Starry Sky and would jump at the chance to explore another dimension of the series on mobile.
