The Witcher 4 developer, CD Projekt Red, has taken to social media to alert fans about a fraudulent beta test invite scam. On April 16, they posted on The Witcher's official Twitter (X) account, addressing the community reports of scam invitations. The post stated, "We've been taking the necessary steps to take this fraudulent messaging down. That said, if you receive any invites to or stumble upon news of one, we kindly ask you to report the scam using the tools available to you in your email client or the social media platform you are using."
CD Projekt Red emphasized that any future beta tests would be announced first on The Witcher's official social media channels and websites.
First Revealed in December 2024
The Witcher 4 was first unveiled during the Game Awards in December 2024, accompanied by a trailer that spotlighted Ciri as the game's protagonist. This announcement sparked significant discussion within the community, as previous games in the series featured Geralt as the lead.
Following the reveal, VGC conducted an interview with The Witcher 4 Narrative Director Phillipp Weber, who addressed fan reactions to Ciri's new role. Weber acknowledged fans' attachment to Geralt, saying, "The best thing that we can do, and I think this is really our goal, is to prove that with Ciri, we can do a lot of interesting things so we can really make it worth it because this decision to have Ciri as a protagonist wasn’t made yesterday, we started making this a very long time ago."
The Witcher 4 Executive Producer, Małgorzata Mitręga, expressed appreciation for the fans' support of the decision to make Ciri the lead. He stated, "Everyone has the right to have an opinion, and we do believe it comes from the passion for our games and I think the best answer for that will be the game itself when the game is released."
The developers have promised that The Witcher 4 will be the most ambitious installment in the series, introducing new regions and monsters. The game is slated for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, though a specific release date has yet to be announced.
